Psychology behind the music...!!!

My history teacher always explained South Indians to be  less exposed to the world compared to the people from the Northern Side of India (She herself was a South Indian). Main reason being that the mughal empire and other subsequent invasions had a greater impact  in the North . This led to huge influences in culture , art and music. Hindustani music  allows allot of experimentation and diversity.

Whereas , Carnatic music which originated from the Bhakthi movement is being followed to the T even to this day !!! Is this a South Indian trait ? I guess so.... Conservatism is in our genes and our music brings out our true nature. Am sure every south indian family would have a computer engineer with a carnatic music background...it's like another rule that we follow...

Yet I couldn't help thinking the amazing amount of new ragas and compositions that have been composed from the initial janya ragas. There has been progress within the allowed parameters and that by itself is remarkable.   Again does conservatism in carnatic music hinder one's creativity in  expressing oneself musically ? It is a personal debate within every one of us... I mean students of Carnatic music....
